THE MURUT PEOPLE
Costume
The Murut traditional outfit for men is comprising of a jacket along with a headdress that is decorated with the Argus pheasant feathers, and also a loincloth. “Babaru puputul” is a bark vest and the “Aba puputul” is a two metres long loincloth. The headgear called “Tupi’sinulatan” and it is decorated with feathers. They are made from the Artocarpus bark.
Women on the other hand, wear a black sleeveless blouse and a long, black skirt that decorated with different colorful beads. “Pinongkolo” is a costume for women comprising a blouse (babaru linantian) and a long wrap-skirt of black cotton. It is decorated with colorful beads. “Pipirot” is a belt that has many silver coins (pipirot linggit) and different type of beads on it. “Salupai” is a headdress with colorful beads and “Holong” is a pair of bracelets that made from shell. “Sinikot” is a set of three hairpins that has two sinikot surai and sinikot tataun. “Rarangkol” is necklaces that made of different colorful beads.
