Musical Instruments

The Murut people have their own musical culture, including different types of gong ensembles called agung ensembles which act as drone. Bamboo is used as a musical instrument to compose a song. Some of their musical instruments like ‘Angkung’ is also made from bamboo. Another example of bamboo musical instrument is the tagunggak. It consists of six to seven bamboo pieces of different diameters and heights to produce various sounds and pitches.

Compared to modern musical instruments, the musical instruments of the Murut people are usually crafted by themselves while for modern musical instruments such as pianos and guitars, they are mainly produced in factories, with few exceptions made through professional craftsman.
